thank you for visiting my ode to Art porter. hello friend, my name is christopher cuben-tatum. Art was a dear friend of mine. after i finished the production and mixing of lay your hands on me, Art excitedly spoke of going on tour to promote the new record. he seemed oddly anxious to do the title cut live. i just thought he was being kind to me because that's the song we worked on together. it wasn't until much later, with the release of for Art's sake, that i finally heard what he did with the song live. wow 23 minutes+. it brought tears to my eyes. anyway, during my last conversations with him, he asked if i could join him as live engineer for a series of dates in southeast asia. when it was clear i couldn't go, he extended the flattering consolation of the two of us working together on his next album immediately upon his return. well ... i'm still waiting. you know, as corny as it may sound, Art's sudden and irrational depArture will never truly close for me -- a pArt of my soul keeps expecting that phone call with his trademark cheerful greeting. so, i designed this site to begin my small pArt in ensuring that knowledge of his greatness is never lost. please sign Art's new guestbook. my sadness at losing by buddy and admired peer is impossible to accurately express in words -- so i won't even try. for those of us who grieve, i share the distinct honor of having been blessed with his warm presence and magical talent. please listen and request his music often. this is where we can always reflect on a moment of his genius. Art, you are missed CCT |
