One hot summer back in the late 1980's,   Chris Cuben-Tatum while visiting one of his cousins Jeff Sudberry in Flint, Michigan, was listening to the new LP by a group called Eric B and Rakim.

At some point a nineteen-year old young man named, La-Ron Wilburn, stepped into the cool basement wearing purple pants, a purple shirt, and a shiny purple tie.

He seemed to know the lyrics to this Rakim record very well.

But, not only could this odd purple-clad dude (who goes by the alter-name "Fi" pronouced FEE) rhyme in perfect sync with the record, but he could rap while dancing in a most peculiar way. This style of "dance" was later to be defined as "frat-stepping".

As it turns out, Fi was a proflic poet of his own. Notebooks and notebooks of rhymes on every subject under the sun.

It was an easy set for CCT to offer an opportunity to come to Chicago and make some recordings.
